The company’s history dates way back to 1899 where engineer August Horch founded A. Horch & Cie which officially became Audi Automobilwerke GmbH in 1910. Audi was acquired by the Volkswagen Group in the 1960’s who positioned it as a premium technology-focused brand. As such they adopted the slogan “Vorsprung durch Technik” (“Progress through Technology”).
